Outreach Events 2016
The Alabama Astrobotics Team participates in many outreach events each cycle. Events range from on campus demonstrations to elementary school visits with the aim to inspire students to be involved and interested in STEM activities and careers.

Alabama Robotics CompetitionThe University of Alabama's Computer Science department hosted its annual K-12 robotics competition on April 9, 2016. Astrobotics team members had a great time showing off the 2015 RMC bot and talking with the competitors, their parents, and educators. Shelton State Community College E-DayAlabama Astrobotics was invited to give demonstrations of the 2015 RMC robot at Shelton State Community College on April 7, 2016! Team members also got to meet and interact with multiple high school BEST Robotics teams with their robots. |
Tuscaloosa Rocketry ChallengeAlabama Astrobotics and UA SEDS had a great time launching rockets February 22nd 2016 in preparation for the Tuscaloosa Rocketry Challenge! |

University Place Genius HourTeam members visit University Place 3rd grade every Wednesday. During these visits, Astrobotics team members help the 3rd graders with projects during “Genius Hour”. They teach the students about the projects we work on and help the students engage in activities that promote STEM skill building and fun! |
UA Women's Basketball Game- 5th Grade FastbreakAlabama Astrobotics was invited to present a robot demonstration at the UA Women’s “5th Grade Fastbreak” basketball game on December 14, 2015. Approximately 5000 5th graders from all over the State of Alabama attended the event that was designed to introduce them to science and engineering. The Astrobotics Team presented both static and dynamic displays of their 2014 and 2015 NASA RMC robots, and was even invited to drive the 2015 national champion robot to center court during the halftime show. |

Huntington Place Elementary - Lab VisitThe Astrobotics Lab is a popular tour stop for students visiting campus. Students from Huntington Elementary School visited on November 3, 2015 and got a chance to drive “Lebron”, the 2015 RMC national champion. |
West Alabama Works - Worlds of WorkAlabama Astrobotics was invited to represent the UA College of Engineering in the West Alabama Works -- Worlds of Work (WOW) event held on the Shelton State Community College campus Thursday October 8 – Friday October 9, 2015. This event covered two full days and included dozens of exhibitors providing info to 1000’s of students ranging from K-12 through college age; teachers and educators; State of Alabama politicians; and corporate leaders. The Astrobotics Team provided an informational booth with both static and dynamic displays of various NASA RMC robots including “Lebron” the 2015 national champion. |

College Gameday ESPNESPN Gameday was on campus in September. The producers shot video of the 2015 RMC robot in the Astroboitcs Lab, and allowed the Astrobotics Team backstage access to their Saturday morning broadcast. Getting photos with the on-air crew was very cool! |
